GoI, have mandated AC for truck cab’s from April 2017. This will be big game changer in the way, trucks are built and sold till now. We may expect newer power trains from manufacturer’s otherwise India has the lowest power to weight ratio engines.
Sunshine’s for Ashok Leyland
Ashok Leyland launched its purpose made platform for School bus “Sunshine”. Though company has claimed many industry first’s including roll over protection, Air Condition, an essential add-on, is sorely missed. Missing essential’s Sunshine will be positioned a step lesser, which otherwise should have been a premium product.
Volvo’s new BS4 range
Volvo Up’ed its successful 9400 Intercity coach range with B8R and B11R BS4 Chassis.
Volvo changed the way we travel in buses with its B7R 12m and subsequent B9R and B11R muli axle coaches.
Now moving forward B7R which was the trend setter in India is now discontinued due to emission up gradation to BS4 (Euro4 and above).
Scania Citywide Low Entry City bus
Scania showcased its global low entry city bus Citywide in Auto Expo. This is likely to compete with Volvo 8400, the sole contender in premium city buses since 2006.
Tata LPO 1613 India’s first LNG powered bus
Tata launched India’s first LNG powered bus LPO 1613. Going by global trends, Tata takes first step in bringing LNG powered vehicles.
BYD enters Indian EV market
BYD, by far the largest EV manufacturer, has announced its JV with Smart Dreams to enter India Electric Bus market. BYD with presence in more than 190 cities, is the company to watch in India as more and more electric buses are planned for induction by many Indian cities.
Scania Metrolink Crosses 1Million kms
Scania’s first Metrolink 14.5m coach crossed a landmark of 1million kms of service in India. Began operation in 2014, this milestone will boost the confidence on Scania among its Customers
Akshay to drive Tata trucks and buses
Towards the end of year, Tata has roped in Akshay to endorse their complete range of commercial vehicles from Ace Zip to Prima. Bollywood stars endoring CV’s is a rare event and its announced that starting Jan high decibel add campaign will follow. The other Bollywood star is Ajay Devgn endorsing Mahindra Blazo.
Rivigo – Fastest growing Logistics Company
Rivigo this year has placed order for 1200 Ashok Leyland Boss, and is now among the top 5 in the Indian surface transport industry. Rivigo will also expand its fleet size by 80 per cent to 2,700. Rivigo will be the logistics company to look for in near future.
Ashok Leyland Circuit
Ashok Leyland launched, Circuit, India’s first Made in India electric bus. This has successfully completed its trials in Rohtang pass and will be qualifying for HRTC tenders.
‘Circuit’ will be yet an another milestone in Ashok Leylands tradition of launching new technologies and products.
Eicher Pro 1049
Eicher announced its foray into the sub 5T cargo carrier with the launch of Eicher Pro 1049 (Eicher Pro 1000 series). The Eicher Pro 1049 comes with the longest cargo body (10ft) & highest and payload (4.9T GVW) in the segment. With this launch, Eicher strengthens its leadership in the Light and Medium Duty (LMD) segment.
Maruti Suzuki Carry
Maruti launched Carry a 0.75T SCV in select markets. This segment completely dominated by Ace, we need to wait and see whether the history repeats, as it happened in diesel hatchbacks, as it was once lead by Indica
Tata Signals with Signa
Tata refreshed its heavy duty trucks range as ‘Signa’.This being the main stream portfolio of Tata the upgrade is limited to cosmetic facelift.
MG showcased Mammoth sleeper. Inch by Inch crafted with perfection, MG have simply blown away major bus body builders and bus manufacturers.
Mammoth is definitive coach to Coach to look for in near future.
JBM Citilife Low Floor bus
JBM has successfully delivered its first City bus Citylife CNG BS4 to Noida Metro Rail Corporation.Made with technological tie-up with Bredamenarini Italy, this will also be the India’s first commercially produced low floor buses
Rise of Mahindra
Bitten by “O” bug again, Mahindra rebranded its entire line up of HCV’s as ‘BLAZO’. Blazo now comes fitted with CRDe engine, coupled with the multi-drive mode feature .
The multimode will have Turbo, Heavy and Light modes – which can be switched by the driver depending load and road conditions.
