After BYD conducted and completed trials with the controversial left hand driven K7, now its Ashok Leyland starting its trails with its electric bus, Circuit in Rohtang Manali stretch.
Ashok Leyland launched its range of Circuit and JMEV series electric buses in October this year claiming India’s first made electric bus. Following the launch, series of things are moving quickly. First was the showcase to KSRTC officials in Trivandrum last month. Next was to BEST Mumbai and now to HRTC. For HRTC its not just showcasing but vehicle will be put in on road trails. The tender for purchsing 25 nos of electric buses are already announced and these trials are a part of qualification criteria. The 10 days, 1000 kms trials is a serious step in validating the performance of electric buses in Rohtang pass.
Circuti is powered by is 150kW motors and its a 9m body on frame conventional bus. The trials are underway and it seems if the trials are successful, the product will be chosen between K7 and Circuit based on the financials. Funds for purchasing these buses will be shared between Central and State Govt. in 75:25 share, as announced earlier.
Its to be noted that BYD is very aggressive in terms of pricing and its too difficult for other’s to compete, as BYD is one of the vertically integrated electric vehicle mmanufacturer in world.
