We understand MAN will be launching a 31T deep mining, rock body tipper in the coming days and here we present some scoop images of the tipper. As always we are here to break news first.

The tipper is currently running under trails in mines at Ramagundam, Telungana. The truck under testing is a rock body tipper manufactured by Gatiman, with a 19 Cu.m body with 6 rock breakers. This tipper will be positioned as a premium offering within MAN tipper potrfolio, to carry same or  near  equivalent load of Volvo FMX 460, but with slightly lesser features.

MAN CLA 31.440, comes fitted with the same current CLA range of cabs, with two point suspension and hydraulic lift option.

While the Volvo FMX 460 is priced at Rs.1.22 Crores, MAN may price it considerably lower but yet offering a tipper with near equivalent load carrying capacity (FMX has a capacity of 19.5 Cu.m). The 12.4 L, D2676 (126mm x 166mm) engine produces 323 kW (440 hp) power @ 2200 rpm and 1,950 Nm of torque between 1,200 and 1,600 rpm for heavy operations. Transmission is via, ZF Astronic 12 speed forward and 4 speed reverse automated gear box.  The gear box has 3 forward mode and 2 reverse mode as well. The gears can either be selected manually or by selecting the stalk switch on the right side of steering column.

MAN CLA 31.440, 19.1 rock body tipper is manufactured by Gatiman.

The cabin is same from the current CLA range with two point suspension and hydraulic lift option. The tipper has semi-elliptical leaf springs at front and heavy duty bogie suspension in the rear. Tyres are 12×24, Apollo Mine lug, 20 PR rated tyres. Tipper features MAN engine brake, Hill-assist control, traction control, suspended driver seat, Air condition, reverse proximity sensor, reverse camera, load monitoring system, semi automatic fire suppression system and MAN’s legendary hub reduction axles. This truck will also be meeting all the requirements of CMVR and DGMS.

MAN CLA 31.440 Rear suspension has 16 conventional leaves.

This truck will be positioned in the same place where the BharatBenz wanted to position ThunderBolt range of trucks. It’s to be noted that Daimler replaced Actros with ThunderBolt and it was a time when many mining customers was favoring BharatBenz over Volvo FMX 460, as the earlier was available at an attractive price differentiation. But due to various reasons, BharatBenz need to pull them quickly from the field and so this space of Mid premium is vacant. The premium 8×4 deep mining tipper segment has an industry volume of around 1500 to 2000 trucks and MAN will be try to carve a pie, which is completely dominated by Volvo FMX 460 and Scania P 440.
