MSRTC is one the largest State Transport Corporation’s in India with a fleet of around 18,000 buses. Its understood that MSRTC wants to offer Wi-Fi service to its passengers travelling in all its buses, in one go. The time target for this task is by August 2017. If this is executed successfully, MSRTC will be first STU in India to offer Wi-Fi across all its buses. None of the State Road Transport Corporations in India have attempted a similar effort earlier and this is a welcome move.
The project, which will be executed by a private firm. Large divisions like Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur and Aurangabad will be covered in the first phase, while Kolhapur division will be included in the second phase.
The corporation has successfully conducted trials in Pune division’s Swargate and Shivajinagar bus stands. Long and medium route buses, like Shivneri and Asiad, will get priority. The MSRTC has also decided to launch Pravasi Wadhva (attract passengers) campaign next month. The best three depots will be awarded with Rs 1 lakh, Rs 75,000 and Rs 50,000 per month till March 31, 2017.
